About Us
Note from the Chairman
Thank you for visiting the Rocky River Rural Planning Organization (RRRPO) website!
The Rocky River Rural Planning Organization (RRRPO) helps provide transportation planning for Anson County, Stanly County, the rural portion of Union County, and the towns within their borders. Every jurisdiction has transportation needs. We assist your towns and counties in prioritizing those needs so the entire region benefits. The area is constantly looking ahead. We want to position ourselves for positive change. That includes being proactive when it comes to roads. We keep member governments informed about important projects like the Monroe Connector-Bypass Toll Road, the widening of Highway 24-27 and infrastructure improvements from stimulus funds. The RRRPO also provides grant-writing services. The RRRPO secured over $90,000 in transportation planning money for our communities last year. The RRRPO is currently working with North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to complete county-wide transportation plans for the three Counties the RRRPO serves. NCDOT listens to RPOs across the state and is committed to listening in the future. NCDOT processes are very detailed and can be overwhelming for citizens. As the RRRPO, we speak with a strong, clear voice for the area we represent. We encourage your input to make all of our roads, greenways, sidewalks, bicycle paths, and other transportation better. I hope this website assists you, whether you are a policy-maker or an ordinary resident. It explains how transportation projects are developed and implemented. I invite you to participate in the process and help our part of North Carolina continue to flourish. Sincerely, Richard B. Allen Chairman RRRPO Technical Advisory Committee Member GovernmentsAll jurisdictions within the RPO boundary are encouraged to become active members and participate. Participation is not mandatory, but, it is strongly encouraged. NCDOT created the RPOs to help rural communities have voices in the transportation planning process.
RPO StaffStaff reports directly to the TAC Board. The Rocky River RPO is the only RPO in the State that is not housed in a Council of Governments. Instead, the organization’s fiscal agent is the County of Stanly. Thus, the RPO Director reports directly to the TAC, but, has administrative services through the County of Stanly.Responsibilities:
